The Barclays ATP World Tour Finals is a tennis tournament that will be played at the O2 Arena in London, United Kingdom. The event is played on indoor hard courts and serves as the season ending championship tournament for players on the ATP Tour. From the first Masters in Tokyo in 1970 this tournament became a prestigious worldwide event. It has since been held in Paris, Barcelona, Boston Melbourne, Stockholm, and Houston before landing itself a 13-year home at Madison Square Garden in New York from 1977 to 1989.
Formerly known as The Masters, at Madison Square Garden from 1977 to 1989, it later was renamed The ATP Tour World Championships in 1990. For the next few years, German cities shared the event for almost 10 years, both in Frankfurt and Hanover during the years. In 2000 the event was once again re-branded and called the Tennis Masters Cup. The event was once again reborn in 2009 as the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals and given to the city of London, UK to be held at the O2 Arena from 2009 through 2012.
